The Splendid Sampler 6/100

Why are flying geese called flying geese, who knows.  Anyway, there are eight of them in this block.  I definitely need more practice with them.
The photo makes this block look a little weird, but it's not really that bad, the perspective is not quite right.  I will be trimming all the blocks at the end of the project.

Table Runner - Finished

I have finished my Sweet Pea Machine Embroidery Design - Wedding Rings Quilt and Blocks table runner.  This is my first attempt at using my embroidery machine to make anything like this.  I had to finish off my black and white quilt before doing the binding on this project because I wasn't too happy with machine sewing the edge of the binding and at least you wouldn't have been able to see it clearly on the black.  But, this project as you can see is lighter colours and I didn't want a wobbly line of machine sewing showing, so as I did on the black, finished this off by hand.  A much better finish for me at this time.  I'm really please at how it turned out.

The Splendid Sampler 5/100

Number five, only ninety five to go, there are some bonus blocks but as of yet I'm concentrating on the main ones first, need to build up my confidence first lol.  This one was pretty straight forward, I seem to be doing alright on the sizing, all five blocks are on or around the 6½" mark.

The Splendid Sampler 4/100

I must remember to reverse the pattern so my appliqué will be on the right side just like on the instruction sheet lol.  Not to worry, I used some of my fusible webbing to attach the pot and the circles.  The pieces are then hand sewn using two stands of thread, just over sewn onto the block, I then used just one strand in the green for the stems.  The block needed a bit of something else so I had a rummage my tin and found the smallest buttons in there.

The Splendid Sampler 3/100

Oh My Good Grief how fiddly was this block haha.  Don't look too close or you will see that the purple heart at the top is all over the place.  I should have taken it out and do it again, but, it had already been done twice already lol, so it's staying put.  Never mind I'm on a very sharp learning curve, what am I doing?

Another Quilt Update - It's Finished

Well I finally finished my first ever quilt, I've made loads of mistakes, but so what, I can live with that lol.  It started out on my old sewing machine with a little extension table and was finished on My Brother which has the long arm opening, making it a lot easier moving all that bulk around.  Even better I also got a Horn Outback Cabinet for My Brother, which gave me loads of room.  It fits very nicely next to my dining room table, I just wheel it around and it fits snugly just under the edge of the table, so I could then throw all the bulk on there, it really helped with the weight while doing the quilting.  I have learnt a lot putting this together, but I have still lots to learn.
I tried all sorts of different ways to attach the bias binding but ended up machine sewing first then finished off doing it by hand, which actually didn't take as long as I thought it would.  I found it gave me a neater finish, I wasn't able to get the machine line as straight as I wanted, I put it down to the weight of the quilt in the end and not my ability lol.  I have seen lots of beautiful quilts while mooching around the Internet and many of the creators have been naming their quilts, I wasn't going to name mine but with the pattern being an off set log cabin, 'A Little Off Set' popped into my head and it just stayed there.
This picture shows a little close up of one of the blocks, I'd made one hundred of them for this quilt and it fits my king size bed.  Right what's next lol.

The Splendid Sampler 2/100

Lots of cutting out and piecing in this block, I started getting a bit paranoid about measuring, cutting and seams.  I have never done anything this small before, in fact I haven't done much of any quilting before lol.  I used Anchor thread to sew the antenna (one strand) and the body in a chain stitch on each butterfly.
The photo makes this block look a little weird, but it's not really that bad, the perspective is not quite right.  I will be trimming all the blocks at the end of the project.

The Splendid Sampler 1/100

Well I have started, this is the first block of The Splendid Sampler.  This heart is supposed to be needle turned appliqué but my hands drive me mad (arthritis) so I used fusible webbing instead.  I then used my Anchor threads (two strands) to sew around the edge of the heart, I haven't hand embroidered for years, not since I was little really.  I got a bit carried away and did the four corners as well lol.
