Shirley's Birthday

My mother-in-law Shirley has a big birthday this week, not telling which one, she wouldn't thank me for that lol.  Anyway, she's a bit of a magpie so I wanted a card that was very shiny, so I throw everything at this one haha.  I used some paper from an 8x8 paper pad, it's one I've had a while, it's a bit odd in so that it has flowers, leaves and even some damask on the pieces and the pad is called Pampered Pets, really!!  Anyway, I wanted to add to the background so I cut a Sue Wilson - Petite Vinery die out of some scrap card and used this as a template for my air gun adding some pink ProMarker randomly over the full 8x8x patterned paper.  I then used some Memento - New Sprout ink and an old tiny leaf stamp to add a little bit of green, I only used a little bit of this paper, the rest was set aside for my next project.  Having had a root in my left over bits and pieces drawer I found the doily, they actually split into two pieces very easily and because I didn't want anything dropping off only used the one side, leaving the other for my next project.  I used some daisy lace and added some white pearly gems to the middle of each.  The flower on the right is from the Tattered Lace - Charisma Hydrangea CD-ROM and die set, I also added some Cheery Lyn Design leaves cut out of white pearlescent card and glittered using a Zig glue pen.  The pink corners are from a Sue Wilson - Lattice Accents,  I sprayed some of the background paper with ProMarkers then once I ran the paper and dies through my Sapphire cutting machine used the Zig glue pen to add the glitter.  The cupcake is an old stamp set I have from Kanban, I've had them for ages, it was stamped using the Dew Drop Brittiance - Coffee Bean ink pad and heat embossed using some detail clear embossing powder.  Once cut out I used some glitter for the frosting and just on the top section of the case.  I kept all my ProMarkers, inks dies, lace etc. in a box ready for my next project, I usually put everything away as I type it up, but this time it was a good excuse for my desk being messy lol.

Wrap Cardigan

This pattern is so easy to knit, it didn't take very long at all.  Plain knit, no buttons or buttonholes, a nice one to knit while watching Vera on TV.  I used a pattern from Craftsy, the picture on that page is a lot better than mine lol.

Baby Boy

The 'abc' and '123' on this card are made from shrink plastic and I used the old alphabet stamps from, as was Dimension Stamps now Nina Crafts, the stamps have been discontinued now but I still use them.  I also stamped the stitch line on each before colouring them in with some watercolour pencils then I shrunk them.  I love the papers I used for the background of this card, they are from the Docrafts Forever Friends - New Arrival paper pad, it seems to be lasting forever.  I had a piece of the glitter paper at the bottom of the card left over from another project so just cut it on the angle and stuck it over the striped top paper.  The dies I used are Marianne Design - Shoes, Spellbinders - Labels One for the topper and Tattered Lace - Baby Boy Washing Line.  I used some white and blue card from the Docrafts Papermania - Textured Cardstock for all the die cutting.  For the washing line I cut out a white line then added some double sided tape to the back, next cut out the blue line and inserted all the blue pieces into the white, to fix this to the card I used some foam pads.  The letters and numbers where fixed using some silicone glue.  One shoe I glued flat the other I used foam pads.  The little bear in the corner really ties the whole card colours together, this is from a digital kit I bought ages ago it's called Dreamland and is from Soxsational Scraps, I've had a look for more details about the digi kit but I can't find any, the kit is about 7 or 8 year old though, as you can see I still use it.  To finish I added some gems and a bit of glitter.

Knitted Shawl

The lovely Nina will be having her son any time now, so I wanted to make a little something for her, for him really lol.  This is the shawl I made it's from the Robin Bambino pattern and is now considered a vintage pattern even though it's from the 70's/80's.  I do now feel old haha, hope all goes well J

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Main Card ¤

Nina Crafts project club

I really like this months project club, just in time for Father's Day, three good sized cars and a few sentiments.  If you are interested in the project club visit the Nina Crafts website and enter your details or send an email for full details.  This is the main card:
Materials Required
Project Club Stamps and Card Kit
Acrylic Block
Distress Inks - Brushed Corduroy and Scattered Straw
Blending Tools or Brushes
VersaFine - Onyx Black
Clear Embossing Powder
Anti-Static Bag
Heat Gun
Scrap Paper
Double Sided Tape, PVA glue, Foam Tape and Foam Pads

Cut the black card so it measures slightly smaller than the base card.  Cut the cream card so it measures slightly smaller than the black card.  Use this piece of cream card, the scrap paper and the two inks.  Use the scrap paper as a mask along the card, using one of the Distress Inks and the blending tool or brush, ink the cream card.  Move the scrap paper mask leaving a gap and use the other Distress Ink to ink this section.  Don't worry about the inked lines being straight it will just add to the effect.  Also the ink doesn't have to cover all the cream card at this point.  I found it easier to turn the cream card and ink down the card instead of across.  If your scrap paper gets over inked and too wet, you may notice some blotches along the inked line.  Just trim off the over inked edge.
Continue until all the card is complete, then use the lightest ink to blend in all over the card and the darkest ink to blend all the edges, set aside to dry.  While inking all over the card you may leave some fingerprints in the ink, sometimes these are quite awkward to cover up, so use the scrap paper to lean on while blending.
Once dry use double sided tape to matt onto the black card, then attach to the card front.  Using the other piece of cream card cut two pieces that measure 15cm x 6.5cm and 7.5cm x 3.5cm.  Dust the smallest piece of card with the anti-static bag.  Stamp the sentiment using the VersaFine ink, add the embossing powder then heat emboss.
Using the lightest ink first, ink around the edges of both pieces of card, adding the darkest ink just to the very edges of the cards.  Allow to dry.  Cut two pieces of the black card so they measure 15.5cm x7cm and 8cm x 4cm.  Using double sided tape attach the sentiment and the inked piece of card.
Use the leftover piece of cream card and ink the same as in number 3.  You only need enough card to stamp the car on.  Once inked allow to dry.
Dust this piece of card with the anti-static bag, stamp the card using the VersaFine ink, add the embossing powder then heat emboss.
Cut out the car and attach to the topper using PVA glue.  Leave enough room for the twine.
Colour the twine with one of the inks and allow to dry.  I used my ink blender and rolled the twine over the ink pad.
Attach foam tape to the back of the sentiment and the car topper, leaving enough room to add the twine.  Wrap the twine three or four times around the topper.  I used some double sided tape to hold it in place then used some PVA to seal it.
Attach both to the card front.
Use foam pads to attach the card candi.
That's it for this month, why not try this card in another colour, I nearly did it in greens, but changed my mind at he last minute.  Hope you enjoy your stamps.  J

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Red Car ¤

Nina Crafts Project Club

The car with its shine was made exactly the same as I did for the blue car, in fact I made them both at the same time.  For this card I wanted to make a stepper card so I measured the cogs I cut out using the Spellbinders - Cogs dies.  Using some dark red pearlescent card and my Woodware trimmer, cut down the side of the card, this trimmer has to be pressed down to cut making it easier to cut inside the card.  I scored the side where I wanted to folds to be and luckily I managed to get it so the sentiment fit in the front section, you can't see any measurements on the trimmer so I just guess.  I used some black card and ran it through a Cuttlebug folder called Clockworks.  I have just got some new pots of Gliding Wax, the stuff I've used in the past were quite hard and I didn't like the finish I got so I have been avoiding them for ages.  But I saw a demo on TV using the Pebeo waxes so ordered them, they are really easy to use and are very creamy.  I applied three coloured to the black embossed background, they are the Silver, Empire Gold and the Renaissance Gold, blending all three together.  For some reason there was a little dot on my base card, but when I tried to remove it it just smudged in, tut.  So I used a stylus and added some more dots around the base card, smudging some of them lol.  I attached the backgrounds to the base card and didn't want to cover them up too much so added the cogs offsetting the red and the black cogs, having run the black one through the embossing folder first.  I needed something else but not too much so I cut out the man from the Tonic dies and stuck him on the corner, I then attached to car with foam tape.  The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed using some Stampendous embossing powder called Red Dragon.  To finish I just added some little dots of Glossy Accents to the middle of some of the cogs.

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Blue Sports Car ¤

Nina Crafts Project Club

Another 6x6 card, they are my favourite size at the moment.  The background blue papers are left over pieces from past projects, I just added a little bit of Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around the edges before matting the smaller piece onto some white card.  For the car topper I used the Spellbinders - Reverse Wonky Rectangles dies, adding some tumbled glass ink before removing from the die.  I stamped the car with Memento - Paris Dusk and coloured in with my ProMarkers.  I then stamped the car onto some wide masking tape and cut the car out leaving the outside background piece of masking tape, I then used the mask to cover the topper completely and then sprayed the car with some Crafter's Companion Spray and Shine.  I removed the mask straight away and left the car topper to one side to dry, I actually did the red sports car for another card at the same time.  I stamped the sentiment onto some white card using the Paris Dusk, then placed the sentiment across the corner of the card, marking the edges with a pencil, making it easier to cut off the ends.  I used the tumbled glass to ink the edges before attaching to the card with a bit of PVA to slide the sentiment into place.  Once dry I used some foam tape on the topper and finished off with three Mosaic gems from Papermania.

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Tag ¤

Nina Crafts Project Club

This gift tag is from Craftwork Cards and is one of their kraft collection.  I used VersaFine - Onyx Black ink and heat embossed with some detail clear embossing powder.  I inked around the edge of the tag with Distress Ink - Brushed Corduroy.  I was going to use some bleach for the lighter areas of the car but remembered I'd got a Picket Fence Distress Marker, I think it worked quite well and maybe a little better than the bleach would have done.  I added some grey Promarker to just highlight the darker areas, I didn't want to colour it too much.  I finished off with a couple of pieces of brown ribbon.

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Black and White ¤

Nina Crafts Project Club

I was having a look through my scrap drawer and found this barcode paper, I don't know where it's from because I've had it quite a while, so this was the inspiration for this card.  I didn't even cut it, I just matted it onto some black card and attached it to the card front.  I then stamped the car using VersaFine - Onyx Black and used detailed clear embossing powder, I coloured it in using my ProMarkers using the Cool Grey shades.  As you can see I cut the car out leaving a 2mm white border around it, then matted onto the black card.  I needed a bit of something to fill the top right hand corner and thought of the project club stamps from January this year.  I didn't want the full heart so trimmed it just a little wider than the lapels, so I stamped with the black and heat embossed, then used a Memento - Tuxedo Black pen to colour the edges of the white card, before colouring in with ProMarkers.  I think it makes the card look a bit art deco.  I stamped and embossed the sentiment trimming it quite small and matting onto the black, I was going to centralize it in the gap that was left but thought a bit of ribbon would fill it better.  I used some VersaCraft - Real Black ink and stamped the Daddy Cool text onto the ribbon leaving the end overlapping but frayed the end.  I used some high tack red double sided tape to stick the ribbon, some foam tape to attach the triangle and double sided tape to attach everything else.

Project Club - May 2015 ¤ Spend Spend Spend ¤

Nina Crafts Project Club

As soon as I saw these stamps I homed in on the Cadillac, it made me think of a lady who won the football pools in 1961, she lived not too far from me.  She went on a spending spree and one of the things she bought was a pink Cadillac, she also dyed her hair to match the car.  I have used the Tattered Lace - Bella's New Wardrobe for the lady on this card and her name was Viv Nicholson.   The flowery background on this card is from a magazine, it reminded me a little of the 1960's.  The sentiment I made on my computer and used the Spellbinders - Labels Twenty Nine for all the matts.  The car was stamped onto some magazine paper and again onto some white card using VersaFine - Onyx Black and heat embossed with some detail clear embossing powder.  I cut off the wheels and the window before sticking the paper car onto the white card, I added a little Glossy Accents to the window and the headlights.  The car was attached to the card front using some foam pads on the front end of the card and some PVA glue on the back end, so I could stand Viv over the car, she was attached using the foam pads.  The flowers are from Small Flowers and Leaves dies from the Lea'bilities die collection, I'd cut quite a few out ages ago so just picked out some red and pinks ones for this card.  To finish I used some gems from MeiFlower.

Mini Class - May 2015

A couple of my old class ladies have been looking around for another class to attend, but haven't found anything they wanted to give a go.  Because they live local to me I have volunteered to have a little class here at home.  We will still be using the Nina Crafts project club stamps most of the time as one of them is actually in the project club.  This class was a tester as next month is holiday time, so we start properly in July.
As I mentioned above we used the Nina Crafts project club stamps from the April set.  I folded the white/gold pearlescent card into a gatefold and used some brown pearlescent card for all the matting.  The stamped images have all been stamped using some VersaMark and heat embossed with Chloe Edean's WOW powder - Hot Chocolate.  The panels on the front of the card were cut out using some Tonic dies.  All images were coloured with different shades of glitter, added using a Quickie Glue pen.  We did the coloured dragonfly in class and the gold and brown one was finished off by me this morning, just shows how different your card can look with just a colour change, both cards have the same front.

Hanni's Birthday

Hanni had her 25th birthday a week ago, it's just flown by.  Every time she walked into my craft room she's seen me making flowers, she's not really a flower person, so this is the card I made her haha.
I used the Spelbinders - Create a Flower Sunflowers dies with the bright pink card.  I used a Memento - Rose Bud pen for the mouth and made the middle of the flower cup like so I could add some Glossy Accents.  I then added the pink googly eyes and left to dry.  The happy birthday is from the Cheery Lynn Design dies and the dies I used for Hanni's name are from Memory Box, i cut them all out of pink foil card.  I don't think she'll be saying anything about what I'm crafting now lol.

Wedding Card

My sister recently asked me to make her a wedding card, and of course I said 'NO' haha, you should have seen her face.  I told her she had to make it herself and that I would help her do it.  She liked the engagement card we made in class and wanted to make something like that, using the same papers etc.  This is my sister showing her finished card, I think she did a really good job as she's not a crafter and has never done anything like this before, but I'm not telling you how long it took lol.
The little silver hearts have been made using some VersaFine - Onyx Black ink onto some white card then heat embossed with some silver embossing powder, she then used some punches to cut the hearts out.  The rest of the card was pretty much made the same was as our class card.
Well done Diane xx
